the hypocrite in me

i have a love/hate relationship with mass market chain stores. on the one hand it is undeniably awesome that they provide fashion to a broader audience because let's be honest, fashion can get a little out of control when it comes to price. on the other hand though, they blatantly rip off higher end and independent designers, providing a cheaply made and cheaply priced alternative to all the hard work, innovation and artistic vision that designer has put into his or her work...that's something i'm really not ok with. however, what i am ok with are the mass retailers pulling in these designer to come up with low cost concepts and pieces to sell in the stores. rather than copying the runways, they are bringing unique and affordable style to the masses while still staying true to the artistic endeavor of fashion design.

the latest retailer to jump on the bandwagon is japanese powerhouse uniqlo. after literally taking over new york last year (h&m watch your back!) the mega store brought in former marc jacobs design group loden dager to create a six style capsule collection to be released this month.

boys, i'm telling you don't sleep on this. loden dager is clean, classic and beautiful in a cheeky kind of way (i mean come on, just repeat the name a few times...) and believe me, if there's one thing i can't get enough of it's a boy in a good button up.
