crash course in pop culture

watching the mtv vmas last night only further reminded me of how out of touch i am with "popular culture". not only did it make me feel disconnected, but also old. all of the jumpy camera work, cutting from one suite at the palms to the next, too many bad bands crammed into one room trying to make a cohesive song...it was just awkward. and speaking of awkward, how about britney. to go from this:

and even though i was pulling for justice to win best video, in a medium like pop music it is no surprise that the one with the big money and the big name behind it took home a statue


but in no way am i hating on rhianna first of all because she's adorable and second because she rocked it out in the vid. so you have jay-z to back you up, you also have the talent to back yourself up. kudos.

from DNR: the three year old men's label band of outsiders who specialize in beautifully tailored men's dress clothing has announced that they will launch a women's collection alongside for spring 2008. the shrunken fits on all their button ups make them a perfect item to steal from the boys, but to know that they are going to be cutting pieces especially for women is very exciting.

launched in 2004, band of outsiders has found their niche in classic american sportswear. it's a relaxed kind of preppy that focuses on the details. all suits are made my hand in either new york or LA and they are quite selective about where they stock the line.

in addition to a women's line, designer scott sternberg is also launching a collaboration with shoe brand sperry top-sider which will be presented with the spring collection at new york fashion week.
